Capstone Conference: 2017 Young Scholars Summer Research Institute

July 31 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Each summer, The Samuel DuBois Cook Center on Social Equity hosts the Young Scholars Summer Research Institute, a three-week program that provides middle and high-school students enrolled in Durham Public Schools with training to enhance their writing, research, and presentation skills. For the Capstone Conference, student participants of this program will present individual and group research projects to Duke University faculty and staff, Durham Public School System teachers and administrators, leaders from community organizations, friends, and family members.  First-year student participants will deliver individual or group oral research presentations related to the varied causes and consequences of inequality and the design of possible remedies for achieving equity and social justice. Second-year program participants will complete poster presentations, and third-year student participants will complete research papers representative of their individual research projects completed across the course of the program. Distinguished capstone speakers will include DPS leaders, program faculty, and keynote speaker Mrs. Billye Aaron.
